Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - Construction of the 575-kilometer (km) Jayapura-Wamena road section of the Trans-Papua Highway is accelerated to reach the target for its completion by the end of this year.

The head of the Jayapura National Road Management Agency (BPJN I), Saut Parulian Munte, in Jayapura City said on Sunday that the Jayapura-Wamena section of the Trans-Papua Road is now under construction and repairs in several points.

"I handled the Jayapura-Wamena section up to 400 kilometers in Elelim, Yalimo district," he said on the sidelines of tour of the Jayapura-Wamena Road to commemorate the local military command (Korem 172 / PWY)`s 55th Anniversary.

According to him, the Jayapura-Wamena road segment is still under construction, especially the construction of Elelim 1 and Elelim 3 roads whose development has reached 80 percent.

"Now it is in the repair phase at a number of points and we are currently closing the road but on Sunday it is open to the public. We do this because many locals are interested especially from Wamena, Jayawijaya and Elelim District, Yalimo District and surrounding areas," he said.

The businessmen brought merchandise or business materials from Jayapura, Jayapura City to Wamena, Jayawijaya District, causing work on Jalan Elelim 1 and Elelim 3 to be disturbed.

"We made an agreement with various parties and road service providers that specifically on Monday-Saturday work days the section was closed and on Sunday it was opened for residents. This has to be done so that road works could be completed quickly according to the target," he said.

Specifically for road works from Jayapura to Elelim, he said, asphalted section had reached 230 kilometers, of which there were those who were under routine repairs or maintenance.

"Indeed, there were several points under improvement, and from kilometers 230 towards Benawa in kilometers 306, the section has been under a routine maintenance or the road conditions there are good," he said.

Regarding the total budget value for the work, he said, it approximately amounted Rp150 billion including the construction of Elelim 1, 2 and 3 roads.

"Now all contractors are working on reaching the target in December 2018," he said.
