Manokwari Selatan (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transmigration has allocated Rp7.8 billion to support the development of a research-based transmigration area in Momiwaren Sub District, South Manokwari District (Mansel), West Papua.

Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi said the funds, sourced from the 2025 State Budget, will be used to build houses of worship, clean water facilities, schools, and non-status roads connecting villages.

“The goal of the infrastructure support is to ensure that transmigration communities can live decently and prosper,” he said in Momiwaren on Wednesday.

He explained that the inclusive and sustainable development of the transmigration area in Momiwaren District involves the Patriot Expedition Team from Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), consisting of 20 members.

The team is tasked with conducting field research, identifying local needs, and mapping natural resources over the next four months to provide accurate data for policy-making.

“The mission of the expedition is to study economic potential that can be developed, monitor and evaluate challenges, and support the establishment of suitable economic institutions in the area,” Viva Yoga stated.

According to him, the current transmigration concept differs from previous years. The old top-down and centralized approach has been replaced with a bottom-up and decentralized model.

This policy aligns with Law Number 29 of 2009, which stipulates that the central government no longer unilaterally determines the location or number of prospective transmigrants.

“Transmigration programs are carried out based on requests from local governments, including the deployment of prospective transmigrants,” he added.

West Papua Governor Dominggus Mandacan welcomed the transformation of the transmigration program, which emphasizes data-driven and knowledge-based development.

He said the approach aligns with the demands of modern development that prioritizes research as the foundation of policymaking, ensuring that development efforts are more targeted and sustainable.

“The local government is committed to supporting the expedition as part of efforts to accelerate development and empower transmigration areas,” Dominggus said.

2) Papua: Free meals program covers 178 schools in Jayapura City
 September 17, 2025 20:49 GMT+700

Jayapura (ANTARA) - The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program has reached children in 178 of 460 schools in Jayapura City, Papua, according to the Papua provincial government.

"In Jayapura City, around 178 schools have been covered by the MBG program through eight public kitchens dedicated to distributing the meals. We hope that more such kitchens will emerge in other districts," said Head of the Papua Education, Library, and Archive Office Christian Sohilait.

He made the statement during Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s official visit to a public junior high school in Sentani, Jayapura District, on Wednesday.

Sohilait said the presence of these kitchens, officially called nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs), is essential to expanding the reach of the MBG program to more schools, thereby ensuring that more schoolchildren regularly receive nutritious meals.

"Nearly all regions in Papua Province have begun implementing MBG. There are only three districts that have yet to report progress, namely Mamberamo, Supiori, and Waropen," he noted.

On that note, the official said his office would convene a meeting with representatives from municipal and district governments on Friday next week to exchange views on advancing and improving the national priority program.

He highlighted that effective implementation requires synergy among various parties, including regional education and social affairs offices, the National Food Agency (Bapanas), the military, the police, and rural governments.

The provincial government, he continued, would evaluate three key aspects of the program, possible behavioral changes among beneficiary schoolchildren, menu quality, and the balance between locally and non-locally sourced food ingredients.

"Such evaluations are important for us to raise the proportion of locally sourced food, ensure sufficient stocks of ingredients, and make the program truly beneficial for children in Papua," he emphasized.

Launched on January 6 as one of President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship initiatives, the MBG program has reached over 20 million citizens nationwide, thanks to nearly six thousand operational SPPGs.

In addition to school-age children, the program also caters to the nutritional needs of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers. The president has set a target for MBG to cover at least 82.9 million beneficiaries by the end of 2025.
