Jayapura, Jubi – As many as eight residents of Oksob District, Pegunungan Bintang Regency, Papua Pegunungan were reported to have died in evacuation locations in the forest there.
A Jubi source who did not want to be named said that the residents who died in evacuation came from several villages in Oksob District.
According to the source, residents died in evacuation locations in the forest due to illness, cold and hunger. Residents of Oksop District have been displaced since December 2024 until now.
He said, the residents who died in the evacuation were Paulina Lepki (58 years old) from Ngangom Village, died on December 25, 2024. Poropina Kalaka (69 years old) from Ngotokpom Village died on January 7, 2025.
Lokana Sasaka (54 years old) died on January 23, 2025 due to illness, Ronal Mimin (20 years old) died on April 10, 2025, due to illness, Ateli Mimin (57 years old), a resident of Alutbakon village died on February 8, 2025 due to illness.
Rastin Mol Peya Mimin (7 years old) died on May 4, 2025, due to illness, Nonince Mimin (14 years old) died on June 12, 2025, due to illness and another was a shepherd named Hef Kasipka (68 years old).
Until now, residents do not know Hef Kasipka's whereabouts. However, they suspected that the shepherd had been murdered, because residents saw him being taken by security forces from Nyotokpom Village on March 5, 2025.
"All residents who died in the evacuation have been buried by their families in the evacuation site," the source told Jubi via telephone, Friday (6/20/2025).
He said that residents of several villages in Oksob District fled to the forest because TNI soldiers had been conducting operations in their villages since November 31, 2024.
He said that the villages that were the targets of the TNI soldiers' operations at that time were Ngangom Village, Ngotokpom, Asekatop Alut Bakon, Atenar, Asekatop, Nyotokpom and Ngangom.
"The TNI, they entered secretly. They slept on the streets and forests and then arrived at the district post in Ngangom Village on December 3, 2024. The first place the TNI occupied was the Oksop District office, around the district office there were around 17 houses. The TNI conducted a sweep, then the community fled to the forest," he said.
He said, a few days later the TNI crossed the river and entered Ngotokpom Village, then they occupied and occupied the GIDI Efesus Sape Congregation church. Several houses of residents around the church were dismantled and burned.
"That's why people from several villages fled to the forest because they were afraid of the TNI's sudden sweep," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Department of Law and Human Rights or HAM of the Evangelical Church in Indonesia or GIDI, Rev. Jimmy Koirewoa said, not long ago his party also received a report that eight residents of the Bintang Mountains died in the evacuation, due to illness and hunger.
"If they are hungry, of course their physical condition will decline. In the forest there are no houses or adequate shelter. They are cold, hungry so they are very susceptible to disease. When disease strikes and there is no health assistance, residents will definitely die. It is indeed very sad," said Rev. Jimmy to Jubi by telephone in Jayapura, Papua, Thursday (6/19/2026).
Rev. Jimmy hopes that non-organic troops will be withdrawn from the area, so that the community can return to their villages. After that, what is the program in the context of security should be coordinated with the church.
"If these troops are not withdrawn, there will be more people who will die. We, the church, basically do not interfere in the affairs of combatants with combatants, please let the TNI and TPNPB OPM exchange fire, but please protect our residents so that no one dies," he said.
Rev. Jimmy Koirewoa said that civilians, some of whom are GIDI members, are still in refugee camps.
His party had coordinated with the Pangdam and Danrem. After that, some of the refugees returned to their villages. However, some are still surviving in the forest because they are afraid to return home.
"Meanwhile, [the residents] in this village have very strict regulations made by non-organic TNI troops, to the point that the community is made rigid. Moreover, access to humanitarian aid is very difficult to enter the villages. So some of the people are afraid to return so they are still surviving in the forest," said Rev. Jimmy Koirewoa
He said that access to humanitarian aid to several villages there was quite difficult. For example, basic necessities such as half a ton of rice, milk for children and other necessities, which his party sent from Jayapura some time ago, have not yet reached the residents there.
"Because it is very tightly guarded, even if [aid can] enter, it is distributed directly by the TNI. What we really regret is that the children need to return because there are children who are of school age but are not in school, this is a concern for us," he said.
He said, the one who regulates every aid that enters the area is the TNI and distribution is based on family cards. Residents' activities are also limited. Residents who go to the garden can only go until 02.00 noon, they are already home in the afternoon.
Rev. Jimmy said, if the TNI wants to guarantee the security of the community, it does not have to be through TNI methods, because it will actually make the community very stressed.
The Head of the GIDI Law and Human Rights Department said that his party had coordinated with the Kodam, Dandrem, and also communicated with the liaison officer. However, they stated that they did not have the authority because the non-organic troops were under the command of Pangkogabwilhan III.
"We are currently making plans to go and meet Pangkogabwilhan III to coordinate so that humanitarian aid can enter," he said. (*)

3) Indonesia mobilises cross-border efforts to combat malaria in Papua
Friday, 20 Jun 2025 2:22 PM MYT
JAKARTA: Amid the geographical and social complexities of Papua, new hope emerges through the formation of the Papua Malaria Consortium, a cross-sector strategic alliance born from the commitment of governors and the support of stakeholders to accelerate malaria elimination.
"If we want Indonesia to be malaria-free, Papua is the key," said Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin during a press conference on Tuesday (June 17), held on the sidelines of the 9th Asia Pacific Leaders' Summit on Malaria Elimination in Bali, which brought together over 250 participants from 23 countries and regions and international organisations.
He and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk led a meeting with six governors from across Papua to develop a more targeted, cross-sector strategy.
Papua, the easternmost region of Indonesia, accounts for over 93 per cent of the country's total malaria cases and has now become the epicentre of Indonesia's fight to eliminate the disease.
According to Budi, elimination in Papua is not only a health target but also a step toward achieving social justice and strengthening an inclusive health system.
Sarthak Das, chief executive officer of the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance, expressed support for Indonesia's move to prioritise Papua in malaria elimination efforts. "Strong local leadership and cross-country collaboration are key to achieving the Asia Pacific region's malaria-free target by 2030," he said.
This local commitment is also reinforced by the Bilateral Joint Action Plan signed between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea on Monday. The cross-border cooperation framework aims to ensure that malaria control efforts are carried out in an integrated and equitable manner in areas that are geographically and epidemiologically interconnected.
Papua New Guinea accounts for 26.4 percent of all malaria cases in the Asia Pacific. Therefore, Das added, Indonesia's ability to gain control in Papua would be a vital signal that similar success is possible in Papua New Guinea.
The Global Fund, one of the key funding partners, affirmed its commitment to supporting Indonesia's efforts focused on malaria elimination in Papua.
"I acknowledge the significant progress made by Indonesia in its fight against malaria, and the Global Fund is fully committed to supporting its partners in the region to combat and eliminate malaria across the Asia Pacific," said Peter Sands, executive director of the Global Fund.
Sands also welcomed the launch of "Indonesia's Call to End Malaria" at the high-level forum, a national initiative to push for comprehensive malaria elimination.
Indonesia's efforts go beyond commitment. The government is expanding the distribution of bed nets, strengthening surveillance systems, increasing the number and capacity of local health workers, and implementing community-based approaches that respect local Papuan wisdom, alongside treatment and vaccine development.
Although challenges remain, especially in terms of geographical access, climate change, and population mobility, these joint efforts show that malaria elimination is no longer a distant dream. With strong political will, international support, and data-driven strategies, Papua could become an inspiring malaria elimination success story for the region. - Xinhua

While we are the leadership of Yuguru Battalion Ibet Gwijangge and my team no one was involved in a shootout with Indonesian Terrorist soldiers in Yuguru. For the shooting and attack on the Indonesian Military Post II in the Yuguru District Kuid, I'm Ibet Gwijangge Commander of the Yuguru Battalion is responsible for the attack and shooting of members of the Indonesian Army in the Yuguri District Kuid.
Some reasons why we the Yuguru battalion attacked the Indonesian Military II post in Kuid area of Yuguru? Because
First, Yuguru area is the area where civilian lives but Indonesian military enters Yuguru starting on January 18, 2025 and Indonesian army build two Indonesian military posts namely; post l in Yuguru airport and post ll in Kuid Yuguru area.
Secondly, we the Yuguru battalion have reminded to Mr. President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and the Indonesian military that the Yuguru area is the residence of civilians so, the Indonesian military withdrew from Yuguru. In this memorial, we have reminded 3 times but the Indonesian military post strong point Yuguru did not beautify our warning kodap lll Ndugama Derakma battalion Yuguru month February-March 2025 last.
Third, the Head of the district Mebarok, Yuguru Society and the Indonesian military post agreed on February 11, 2025 that the Indonesian military did not get out of the Merame river and Waru river but on March 22, 2025 the Indonesian military caught and mutilated a civilian named Abral Wandikbo. Subsequently on March 25, 2025, the Indonesian military under the leadership of commander Jonathan raided houses and arrested civilians in Yimiri one and Yimiri in Yuguru area.
Fourth, Indonesian Army and together with the head of district Mebarok, Yuguru area agreed on February 11 that the Indonesian army did not get out of the Merame River However, the Indonesian Military came out of the Merama River and they burned the houses of Kuid residents, demolish KINGMI kuid Church and dismantle the mother puskesmas of Yuguru area and build post II in Kuid.
Fifth, Indonesian military in Yuguru they confiscated Yuguru civilian's belongings, such as money, air rifles, parasites, censors, arrows and killing Yuguru's pet pigs confiscated by Indonesian robber military in yuguru.
With these five reasons, we TPNPB-OPM kodap lll Ndugama Derakma under the Leadership of Yuguru Battalion on today, Friday, June 20, 2025 we attacked post ll Kuid and killed one member of the Indonesian army and another injured.
RI President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesian military who named the strong point post Yuguru have violated the International Humanitarian law and they have violated the war law of the Geneva Convention 1949 in which the International Humanitarian law prohibits shooting of civilians, forbids burning of hospitals and Churches but the Indonesian Army has violated the Humanitarian law International then we TPNPB-OPM kodap lll Ndugama Derakma battalion Yuguru attack and terrorist shooter Indonesian Military.
Responsible for the war and attack and shooting of Indonesian Army members in Post ll Kuid area Yuguru is Mr. Major Ibet Gwijangge Commander of Yuguru Battalion, therefore commanders Chris, Dila and Jonathan thieves, robbers and your guests do not go after civilians who do not have weapons but please go after me and the troops I am Yuguru battalion because we do not run away from you because Yuguru is our home, our region, our region and our palace.
