1) Untold story About West Papua National Anthem formerly called Island of New Guinea
 Daniel Mwambonu
In 1961 the Netherlands set up a parliament in the colony of Netherlands New Guinea, responsible for preparing the territory for independence by the end of ten years. One thing the council approved was a national anthem to be used, “Hai Tanahku Papua”, which had been written by a Dutch missionary back in the 1930s, and the anthem was officially used in the territory until the territory fell under Indonesian government control in 1963.
From that time on, performance of the anthem and presenting other national symbols of West Papua in the Indonesian-controlled province became illegal.
The national symbols, including the anthem, are still used by West Papua independence activists both inside West Papua and throughout the world.
West Papua National Anthem
Oh Papua, my land
Where I was born and raised
Thee I shall always love
Till my day of eternal rest comes
I love the whiteness of your sands
On your beaches, joyful
Where the azure seas
Sparkle bright in the day
Your high peaks I adore
Majestic and grand
Sublime clouds, surrounding
Around the tops, they do
I love this land of mine
Naturally abounding with bounty
That shall pay me off
and my labour in full
Thy roaring waves, I am smitten with
Ever crashing against your white, sandy beaches
A melody that shall eternally
In my heart remain
I love the sprawling forests
That this land is built upon
‘Tis rapture to traipse
Under its benevolent shade
Thank you, oh Lord on high
This land of mine, Thine creation
Task me to labour ceaselessly too
To spread Thy cause, far and wide

2) BMKG Urges Papua Residents to Remain Cautious of Potential Quake, Tsunami
By : Robert Isidorus and Sheany | on 11:59 PM October 22, 2018

Jakarta. The Indonesian weather office has issued an advisory for residents of Papua to remain alert of a potential earthquake or tsunami, after several tremors in the province over the past few days.
"There are several earthquake-prone districts: Sarmi, Biak, Serui, Nabire and Jayapura, so for residents living in those areas, we advise them to be cautious when an earthquake occurs, and to be ready for evacuation," Petrus Demon Sili, head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Jayapura's fifth district, was quoted as saying by Suara Pembaruan on Monday.
As these areas are on flat terrain and located close to the sea, there are limited options to seek higher ground, should disaster strike, he added.
"These districts could potentially be struck not only by a local tsunami, but also a regional one. This happened during the 2011 Japan tsunami, which also impacted Jayapura," Petrus noted.
Papua experienced several earthquakes over the past few days. Sarmi district recorded a magnitude-5.7 quake on Friday, followed by a magnitude-4.7 quake that hit Jayapura on Sunday.
Indonesia is still grappling with the aftermath of deadly disasters in Central Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara, which together claimed the lives of nearly 2,700 people.
The impact of those disasters has raised concern over Indonesia's disaster preparedness.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire and is regularly hit by earthquakes, but the extent of the damage in the earthquake and tsunami in Palu and Donggala in Central Sulawesi revealed substantial shortcomings in the country's early warning system and disaster mitigation efforts, mostly due to insufficient funding.
The BMKG in Jayapura said it was working closely with the district government to educate citizens on disaster preparedness, including through simulations.
"We are working with the government to train the people so that they can save themselves through self-evacuation in the event of a disaster," Petrus said.

3) Community leaders condemn rape of school teacher in Papua

Reporter:

Timika, Papua (ANTARA News) - Nduga community leaders have strongly condemned the raping of female school teacher in the village of Mapenduma, in the district of Nduga after being taken hostage by armed criminals earlier this month.

"On behalf of the Nduga community in Mimika, I condemn the action of barbarity inflicted by the criminals on the hostages, Elipanus Mosareak said here on Thursday.

A group of armed civilians, believed to belong to separatists under Egianus Kogoya, took hostage 15 school teachers and medical workers in Mapeduma in the mountainous district of Nduga from Oct 3 to 17. One of the hostages, a woman school teacher was raped.

"This is very inhuman and we strongly condemn the cation of barbarity," Elipanus said.

A district isolated in the mountain area in Papua is grateful for what the school teachers and medical workers have done for the local people,he said but after the incident he feared no none of the volunteers would be willing to return to work in that area.

The future of Nduga would be gloomy with no teachers for the young people that need education in that district and no paramedics to tend to the public health, he said.

"We would suffer big setback
"We condemn, whoever committing that crime. Teachers and health workers carry a noble mission to help especially the younger generation of Mapenduma," chairman of FKUB Ignatius Adii said.

Ignatius said in at least 10 years to come no teacher and paramedic from other parts of the country would want to work in Mapenduma with no guarantee for their security there.

The victim of rape by the group of criminals under Egianus Kogoya is now under medical treatment at the Bhayangkara policve hospital in Jayapura.

Papua police chief Ins.Gen. Martuani Sormin said the victim has worked as school teacher for seven years at Mapenduma.

"This is a tragedy for education in Papua. It is a human tragedy," the Papua police chief said.

He said police would launch law enforcement operation soon in Mapenduma and surrounding area.

Editing by A saragih, Andi Abd in education and health care services. Who would offer to volunteer to work in that area?" he said.

Another member of the Nduga community in Mimika Jhony Wasareak said a number of Nduga community leaders in Mimika would soon leave for Mapenduma to see for themselves the damage caused by the group of criminals.

The incident has drawn strong reaction from the Religious Community Communication Forum(FKUB) in Mimika denouncing the rape.
