1) Freeport Boss Says Gresik Smelter to be Finalized

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Director of Freeport Tony Wenas reported the progress development of a copper smelter in Gresik, East Java. "At the end of August [the development] reached 76% of progress," he said when met at Safe Forum 2023 in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
"Hopefully, the physical construction of this smelter will reach 100% at the end of the year and begin operation in May 2024," he explained.
Earlier in 2021, Freeport Indonesia kick-started the development of Gresik Smelter and targeted the finalization for next year. The smelting factory is said to have a 1.7 million tonnes per year production capacity and 6,000 tonnes per year production capacity of precious metal refinery.
Meanwhile, the smelter will produce copper cathodes, gold and silver bullion bars, platinum group metals, and additional products such as sulfuric acid, gypsum, lead, and slag.
The Freeport smelter is projected to produce 600,000 tonnes of copper, 50 tonnes of gold, and 210 tonnes of silver each year.
Freeport Indonesia through this project has realized US$2.2 billion of investment through May 2023. The smelter has also absorbed US$3 billion.

Nine days of escaping due to the armed conflict between the Indonesian Military and the West Papua National Liberation Army (TNPB) in Oksibil on September 17,
2023 has now received medical aid from the medical department in the region.
There are more than three refugee camps in Oksibil, Pegunugan Bintang Region, West Papua that have now received medical assistance from concerned parties.
Sources report that, there are many sick citizens in refugee settlements such as in Parim, Yakmor, Etilkatop and Yakomkop.
As of now Tuesday, September 26, 2023 it has not been clearly known whether civilians who fled into the woods have returned to their homes or not. Please confirm from Oxibil.
Regarding the armed conflict Trigana Air Airlines has suspended flights of civilian aircraft to Oxibil, the Star Mountains Region on September 21, 2023 following gunfire on aircraft in Oxibil when the conflict broke out.

2023 kini telah mendapatkan bantuan obat-obatan dari pihak medis di wilayah tersebut.
Ada lebih dari tiga kemp pengungsian di Oksibil, Kabupaten Pegunugan Bintang, West Papua yang kini telah mendapatkan bantuan kesehatan dari pihak terkait.
Sumber melaporkan bahwa, terdapat banyak warga yang sakit di tempat pengungsian seperti di Parim, Yakmor, Etilkatop dan Yakomkop.
Hingga sekarang Selasa, 26 September 2023 belum diketahui dengan jelas bahwa warga sipil yang melarikan diri ke hutan sudah kembali ke rumah mereka atau belum. Mohon di konfirmasikan dari Oksibil.
Terkait konflik bersenjata tersebut pihak Maskapai Trigana Air telah memberhentikan penerbangan pesawat sipil ke Oksibil, Kabupaten Pegunungan Bintang pada 21 September 2023 setelah terjadi penembakan terhadap pesawat di Oksibil saat konflik pecah.
