1) Uncen helps Papua villages turn used cooking oil into fuel

Sentani, Papua (ANTARA) - Cenderawasih University (Uncen) in Papua Province is teaching residents in Yoboy and Kehiran villages how to turn used cooking oil into biodiesel as part of its community outreach program.

The public university brought together lecturers, students, teachers, and local reading groups to help local families learn how to recycle waste oil into clean, affordable fuel.

“This knowledge can help people meet their everyday energy needs,” said Yohanis Mandik, a science lecturer and head of the community service team, on Sunday during a demonstration in Yoboy Village, Sentani Subdistrict, Jayapura District.

Mandik explained that reusing cooking oil is unsafe for health, and dumping it can damage the environment.

“That’s why we’re showing a simple way to turn it into biodiesel — good for lamps and stoves,” he said.

Local youth leader Jems Gustaf Tokoro said the program brings useful new knowledge to the villages. “We hope this can spread to other communities around Lake Sentani,” he said.

Hanny Felle, who leads Yoboy’s local energy group, said villagers welcomed the project and saw its potential for both household use and small businesses.

“It’s a smart way to turn waste into something valuable,” she said.

The workshop included hands-on training in filtering used oil and turning it into biodiesel using basic tools and ingredients. The fuel can be used to power lamps and cooking devices, especially useful in areas with limited electricity.

The program is part of Uncen’s effort to support self-reliance and environmental awareness in Papua.

“It’s not just about fuel. It’s about helping people live better with what they already have,” Mandik said.

2) Army unit gives health checks, farm seeds to Papua villagers
September 14, 2025 21:25 GMT+700
Wamena, Papua Pegunungan (ANTARA) - Indonesian soldiers are helping residents in remote parts of Papua's highlands by offering free health checks and providing seeds to grow food, military officials said Sunday.

The Yonif 521/DY Task Force visited homes in Yalimo District to carry out basic health checks under a government program called Cek Kesehatan Gratis (Free Health Check or CKG).

They examined residents, gave simple treatments, and offered health advice.

"We want to be present for the people who need us, even if the medical facilities are limited," said Lt. Col. Rahadyan Surya Murdata, who leads the task force.

"This is one way we show our care for their health," he said, adding that the service allows the task force personnel to improve disease prevention access and reach residents in need of basic healthcare more directly in Yalimo District.

Meanwhile in Yahukimo District's Kurima area, the same task force distributed seeds for vegetables, fruit, and corn to support families in growing their own food.

Soldiers also helped clear the land and plant the crops.

The programs are part of a broader government effort to improve daily life in Papua by strengthening health services and food security in rural areas.

Rahadyan said the military's role goes beyond maintaining security.

"We're here to help solve everyday problems together with the people," he said.

He added that these efforts help build trust and cooperation between the army and local communities.

Some villagers said they were grateful for the help.

“We’re happy the soldiers think about our health and our food. We’ll plant these seeds and take care of them,” said Mega, a resident who received the farming supplies.

The military hopes these programs will reduce reliance on forest resources and encourage families to grow food in their own yards.

“This is an investment in long-term health and well-being,” Rahadyan said.

“We want to make sure the people here live better, healthier lives.”

3) Press Release from the National Liberation Army (KOMNAS TPNPB) Headquarters Management, on Sunday, September 14, 2025
From Facebook posting

West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) asks the Australian and New Zealand police not to interfere in the arms smuggling and hostage-takenof Philips Mark Marthens in Papua, as we have released the pilot for the sake of humanity and international humanitarian law.
Press Release from the National Liberation Army (KOMNAS TPNPB) Headquarters Management, on Sunday, September 14, 2025
Please follow the statement below!
The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) Headquarters Management officially requests to Australian and New Zealand police not to interfere in the arms smuggling and hostage-taken of Captain Philips Mark Marthens by the TPNPB in Ndugama Region, Papua.
The First, regarding the smuggling of weapons from Australia for TPNPB troops in Papua, we, as the Management Controller of the National Liberation Army (TPNPB) Headquarters, are unaware of this, and there has been no coordination between us and the relevant parties.
The Second, we commend all supporters of the Papuan independence struggle in Australia, New Zealand, and around the world who continue to advocate and protect Papuans from extinction due to the cruel and violent actions of the Indonesian military against indigenous Papuans. Therefore, we urge the Australian and New Zealand governments to support the Papuan people's struggle for self-determination, especially as Papua remains in the Pacific and deserves its own independence, just like our brothers and sisters in PNG, Vanuatu, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, Samoa, and the countries of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia within the Pacific region. Therefore, the Papuan issue must be a Pacific issue that must be resolved.
The Third, the hostage-takenof Captain Philips Mark Marthens by Egianus Kogeya and his troops in Paro, Nduga, Papua on February 7, 2023, occurred due to a war situation and violated the West Papua National Liberation Front (TPNPB) protocol by entering a designated war zone and a prohibited area set by the TPNPB and it's was very clear.
The Fourth, while Captain Philips Mark Marthens was with the TPNPB troops in Nduga, we continued to protect him, even under the threat of the Indonesian military, including bombings by aircraft, ground attacks using bazookas and bullets. We also guaranteed his safety and security from the massive Indonesian military offensive. This was not only for us, but also for civilians, resulting in the lost of life, property, and mass displacement in Nduga. However, while Captain Philips Mark Marthens lived with us during the war, we provided his living needs and coordinated with his family. He was with us for 18 months and was finally released for humanitarian reasons and to uphold international humanitarian law in Papua. Thanks to the hard work of our Chief of Staff, Major General Terianus Satto, and TPNPB Spokesperson Sebby Sambom, who provided understanding to the TPNPB troops to free Captain Philips. The TPNPB has demonstrated to the governments of Indonesia, New Zealand, Australia, and the global community that the TPNPB continues to adhere to humanitarian law protocols during the war against the Indonesian military in Papua to regain independence.
The Fifth, the hostage situation of Pilot Philips Mark Marthens in Papua is not on the National Command's agenda; it occurred "due to the situation." The National Command on the Nationl Liberation Army of Papua (Komnas TPNPB)'s agenda is a total revolution to reclaim the independence of the Papuan people, and we are currently working towards that goal.
Therefore, the Management of the National Command Headquarters (KOMNAS TPNPB) once again requests the governments of Australia and New Zealand not to conflate the issue of arms smuggling and the hostage situation of Captain Philips Mark Marthens in the war zone in Papua, as we have released him for the sake of humanity and international humanitarian law.
This is the Press Release from the Management of the National Command Headquarters of (KOMNAS TPNPB) as of Sunday, September 14, 2025,

TPNPB Minta Kepada Polisi Australia Dan New Zealand Untuk Tidak Campur Aduk Masalah Penyeludupan Senjata Dan Penyanderaan Philips Mark Marthens Di Papua Karena Kami Telah Bebaskan Pilot Demi Kemanusiaan Dan Hukum Humaniter Internasional
Siaran Pers Manajemen Markas Pusat KOMNAS TPNPB Per Minggu, 14 September 2025
Silahkan Ikuti Laporan Dibawa Ini.!
