Operation Cartenz's Peace 2024 will continue to prioritize its functions to guide the people, connect with people, detect threats, and enforce the law
Jakarta (ANTARA) -
The Operation Cartenz's Peace, aimed at maintaining peace in Papua, will continue this year while prioritizing humanitarian and persuasive steps in its implementation, the National Police (Polri) stated.
"Operation Cartenz's Peace 2024 will continue to prioritize its functions to guide the people, connect with people, detect threats, and enforce the law," Polri's Public Relations Division officer Grand Commissioner Erdi A. Chaniago remarked in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He emphasized that implementation of the peace operation this year will not be different to that in 2023 by adopting humanitarian and persuasive measures as the main resorts.
The operation is active in the regions covered by the Papua Regional Police, with a total of nine areas in the provinces of Central Papua and Highland Papua being prioritized.
"Our regions of priority involve Pegunungan Bintang, Yahukimo, Mimika, Intan Jaya, Dogiyai, Puncak, Nduga, Jaya Wijaya, and Jayapura," Chaniago pointed out.

The peace operation commenced on January 1 and will conclude on December 31 this year.
Earlier, on December 27 last year, Polri Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that Operation Cartenz's Peace 2023 had empowered a total of 908 joint personnel, with 777 coming from the police and 131 from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
Prabowo explained that it was carried out by adopting a hard approach while upholding human rights in curbing threats posed by armed separatist groups in Indonesia's Papua region.
Throughout 2023, the Task Force of Operation Cartenz's Peace managed to neutralize 19 armed group members and arrest 124 others.
The task force had also successfully seized 32 guns, 1,279 bullets, 25 magazines, 107 communication devices, 31 blades, and 334 other related pieces of crime evidence.
"In 2023, The Task Force of Operation Cartenz's Peace managed to capture 47 bases of armed separatist groups," Prabowo affirmed.
