Internationally renowned human rights lawyer, Jen Robinson, will speak about her journey from public schools on the south coast of NSW to The Hague, and the key causes and cases that have inspired and powered her career, including her work on West Papua, defending Julian Assange and WikiLeaks and acting for Vanuatu and the Marshall Islands in the International Court of Justice climate change proceedings. She will also discuss her book on free speech and tackling violence against women, How Many More Women, which has been made into a feature documentary which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in the US in January.

 

Professor Trish Mundy, Interim Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts, Society and Business, will give introductory remarks.

 

Jen will also be signing copies of her book, How Many More Women, which will be available for purchase. 


About the Speaker Jennifer Robinson is one of the world’s most respected human rights lawyer and advocate. A barrister at Doughty Street Chambers in London, she has acted in key international law, human rights and media freedom cases in domestic and international courts. Her diverse and groundbreaking work includes defending WikiLeaks and Julian Assange and securing his release; acting for Amber Heard in relation to Johnny Depp’s unsuccessful defamation claim in the UK; achieving political asylum for West Papuan leader Benny Wenda; and successfully taking climate change to the world’s highest court, the International Court of Justice. Jen co-authored ‘How Many More Women’ (published as ‘Silenced Women’ in the UK) with her colleague, Dr Keio Yoshida. SILENCED, the film based on her book, will have its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival in 2026.
