Vale Carmel Budiardjo

AWPA offers its condolences to the family and friends of Carmel Budiardjo who passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday 10th July.

She campaigened  for the release of political prisoners, for human rights, justice and democracy in Indonesia, West Papua,  East Timor an Aceh. 

 

Carmel was the  founder of TAPOL and for TAPOL’s international work on West Papua, Carmel received the John Rumbiak Human Rights Defender Award and was also honoured as an “Eldest Daughter of Papua” by leaders of West Papuan civil society in 2011.
