Police's Public Relations Division Head Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo told ANTARA here, Wednesday, that the review is conducted by the police's staffing and planning department and research and development department.
"Staffing and Planning (Department) and Research and Development (Department) are conducting thorough research to plan the development, its facilities, and the personnel number," Prasetyo stated.
The inspector general pressed for the need for a thorough review to properly assess the facilities and personnel needed to establish the four provincial police units.
"Forming a new regional police unit must be followed by detailed calculation of the planning and necessities, and Indonesia's economic conditions must also be taken into account," the inspector general said.
Prasetyo stated that while the new provincial police unit had yet to be established, residents requiring police services could access the existing local police attached to the provincial capital police or directly to the Papua province police.
"If existing police units need more personnel in the new provinces, the Police Headquarters will provide reinforcements," he remarked.
Earlier, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo reiterated the police's readiness to support the four new provinces in Papua.
While presenting the police's 2022 year-end release last Saturday (December 31, 2022), Prabowo stated that new police units should be established for the new provinces to ensure residents could access police services.
"We will accelerate the distribution of development, and the police would also review the establishment of new provincial police units and its subordinate units to ensure (public) access to police services," the police chief affirmed.

"Security in Papua, as highlighted by the vice president, is a prerequisite to realize prosperity in Papua," Vice Presidential spokesperson Masduki Baidlowi stated after accompanying Amin to meet Margono and Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali here, Tuesday (January 3).
Apart from regional security, the vice president accentuated the need to prepare all aspects needed to develop infrastructure in Papua, he remarked.
Amin also instructed the TNI commander to visit Papua and commit to a humane approach in fulfilling the instruction, Baidlowi noted.
"The TNI commander himself will visit Papua soon and execute all measures instructed by the vice president to ensure (security) approach in Papua will remain humane and also with firm territorial approaches," the spokesperson remarked.
He added that the TNI commander accepted the vice president's instruction to take "defensive active" measures in Papua.
Meanwhile, he said that Amin also told Admiral Ali about the beauty of the sea in Papua as well as the tuna fish export potential that he had observed during the visit to Biak Numfor, Papua.
As Papua hold huge potential for Indonesia, the vice president expected security measures to be enhanced to maintain security in the maritime territory in Papua and the wider Indonesian region.
"The vice president asked (the military) to secure maritime resources in Papua and maintain other aspects well," Baidlowi remarked.
Earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) welcomed Admiral Margono's plan to prioritize a humane approach in the Papua region.
After inaugurating Margono as the new TNI commander on December 19, 2022, Jokowi said that despite the commitment to accord priority to a humane approach, Margono must remain firm against armed criminal groups disrupting security in the region.
"I think the humane approach is good. The reduction of TNI personnel in Papua is also good, but we must remain firm. If we fail to be firm, the armed criminal groups will continue their actions, and the issue will not be resolved," Jokowi stated.

Jayapura, Jubi – Head of the HIV/AIDS Section of the Papua Health Office Rindang Pribadi Marahaba said that until the end of September 2022, there were 7,941 HIV/AIDS patients in Papua undergoing antiretroviral (ARV) treatment. The number is relatively small compared to active HIV/AIDS cases which reached 46,363 patients.
Rindang admitted that the number of people living with HIV/AIDS who routinely undergo ARV treatment was relatively small compared to the number of active cases in Papua. He said the Papua Health Office was working to make health centers in the region more active in providing ARV services to patients.
According to Rindang, the small number of ARV-treated patients was due to several factors, including the stigma received by people living with HIV/AIDS. Many also failed to receive ARV treatment because they don’t have access to transportation to go to hospitals.
There are at least 60 independent ARV services spread across the four provinces in Papuaisland. In addition, there are also 228 HIV testing services.
Rindang explained on Tuesday, January 3, 2022, data from the Papua Health Office records that the number of people who routinely consume ARVs is 3,375 people in Papua Province. They are spread across Biak Numfor Regency (33), Jayapura Regency (831), Keerom Regency (72), Yapen Islands Regency (276), Jayapura City (2,121), and Supiori Regency (42).
In addition, there are 2,413 patients consuming ARV in Central Papua Province. They are located in Mimika Regency (1,052), Nabire Regency (997) and Paniai Regency (364).
There are also 1,519 HIV/AIDS patients who routinely take ARVs in Mountainous Papua Province spread across Jayawijaya Regency (1,180), Bintang Mountains Regency (118), Puncak Jaya Regency (159), Yahukimo Regency (30), and Yalimo Regency (32).
"Medical equipment for the treatment of stroke and heart patients is scheduled to have been able to be operated by July 2023 -- before the implementation of the Cenderawasih Bay Sail event in August (2023)," Director of Biak RSUD Ricardo Mayor informed here on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, specialist doctors for stroke and cardiovascular diseases have been prepared and are ready to serve patients, he added.
He said he expects that by developing the hospital as a referral center, local people will not need to seek treatment outside the province.
“Slowly, but surely, this year (2023), Biak RSUD will become a referral for stroke and heart patients," the director of Biak RSUD remarked.
To support the development of the hospital as a stroke and cardiovascular referral center, his party is running an emergency room and an integrated surgery room.
"Thus, when the referred stroke and heart patients come to the Biak RSUD for treatment, they can be treated as soon as possible and the ones who require surgery will have operation facilities prepared," he said.
Regarding the number of patients served by Biak RSUD in 2022, Mayor said that the number showed an increase compared to the 2020–2021 period -- or during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The number of patients treated at Biak RSUD reached about 70 thousand people in 2022," he informed.
Meanwhile, Head of Biak Numfor District Herry Ario Naap said that the government has built a three-story building for Biak RSUD to improve the provision of health services to Papua residents.
"(Adequate) building as well as complete medical equipment and facilities have been provided for implementing the health services at the hospital, thus, now, the residents do not need to be referred to get treatment outside Papua, as they can just be referred to Biak RSUD," he added.
