Manokwari, Papua (ANTARA) - A flood triggered by incessant heavy rain, swept away at least three homes in Mimboy Village, Masni Sub-district, Manokwari District, West Papua Province, on Friday evening.
"The three houses were first hit by landslide and later swept away by flooding," Lt Col Hendriek Mote, commander of the Manokwari/1801 military district, confirmed about the disaster here, Saturday.
A bridge located in Meiforga and another one connecting Jowen and Mimboy collapsed after being hit by floodwaters. The bridge collapse inflicted material losses amounting to around Rp2 billion.
"We have made coordination with the regional government of Manokwari and the local disaster mitigation office. Hopefully, it would be followed up soon," he added.
Several military officers were deployed to help in the rescue operations and build temporary bridges.
