Nabire, Jubi - A motorcycle taxi driver named Udin was shot dead in Eromaga, Omikia District, Puncak Regency, Papua, Wednesday (14/4/2021). Numbuk Telenggen, a member of the West Papua National Liberation Army or TPNPB under the Lekagak Telenggen and Murib Military Command, claimed responsibility for the shooting.

Udin was shot dead in Eromaga Village on Wednesday at around 13:10 WP. It is suspected that the shooting of Udin occurred after he was escorting the passengers. Udin died with a gunshot wound to the right chest and left cheek.

The shooter, Numbuk Telenggen, claimed that the victim was a security officer disguised as a motorcycle taxi driver. However, Telenggen did not explain further whether the victim was a member of the TNI or Polri.

"Earlier around 13:10 pm at Kampung Eromaga, we shot dead a member of the security apparatus who was disguised as an ojek," Telenggen said when contacted by telephone on Wednesday.

Telenggen stated that the shooting of Udin was an order to operate the TPNPB. "We are members of the TPNPB Operations Commander Lekagak Telenggen and the Murib Military who shot the ojeg drivers," he said.

Telenggen stated that it has data on a number of security forces in the Ilaga and Beoga areas (Puncak Regency), Hitadipa (Intan Jaya Regency), Puncak Jaya Regency, and Lany Jaya Regency who disguised themselves as motorcycle taxi drivers. "If they, TNI / Polri look for any reason, it is not true. "The ojeg drivers in the area I mentioned, almost all of our ojegs know who they are," he said.

The Antara News Agency released a statement from the Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri, who confirmed the shooting incident of Udin, who works as a motorcycle taxi driver in Eromaga Village. According to him, the shooting had been reported by residents and security forces had evacuated the victim's body.

2) Jayapura's elderly should take vaccine for endurance, protection
1 hour ago

Jayapura (ANTARA) - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has appealed to the elderly in Jayapura, capital of Papua province,  to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to boost their endurance and protection against the infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Head of the Jayapura City Health Office, Dr Nyoman Antari, remarked here on Wednesday that the health minister put forth the request while observing the vaccinations at VIM Village of Jayapura on Wednesday.

He noted that the Jayapura city government lauded the minister’s visit amid efforts to intensify COVID-19 vaccination and accord priority to the elderly as well as health workers and public service workers for vaccines.

During the health minister’s visit, the Jayapura City Health Office conveyed the COVID-19 vaccine requirement in the city on account of the implementation of National Sports Week (PON) scheduled soon in the city.

"We need 470,000 doses, as only 32 thousand people have been vaccinated so far. We do not want to transmit or we are infected with COVID-19," Antari stated.

He noted that 1,250 elderly were vaccinated so far out of the targeted 30 thousand people. Only a small segment of elderly have been vaccinated since several senior citizens are reluctant to get inoculated and also since several of them have comorbidities.

However, he emphasized that the city government will continue to disseminate information, so that they are ready to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to help boost their immune system.

Cumulatively, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the city, as of Wednesday, reached 8,905, with 8,276 people having recovered, 153 individuals succumbing to the disease, and 476 people being treated, either independently or centrally at hospitals or homes. Related news: Papua's police officers launch mask-wearing campaign in Jayapura City
