Jayapura, Jubi – The National Human Rights Commission or Komnas HAM Papua Representative asked the police and prosecutors to pay attention to the health and psychological conditions of the international spokesman for the West Papua National Committee (KNPB), Victor Yeimo.

The head of the Komnas HAM Papua Representative Office, Frits Ramandey, said his party had visited the former KNPB chairman three times. A visit to see Victor Yeimo's condition was carried out, when Yeimo was detained as a suspect at the Papua Regional Police, until he was a defendant, and was entrusted by the prosecutor's office at the Mobile Brigade Headquarters, Kotaraja, Abepura District, Jayapura City.

"We have asked investigators and I to coordinate directly with the Kajati Papua, to pay attention to Victor Yeimo's health and psychological condition," said Frits Ramandey to Jubi, Saturday (14/8/2021).

According to him, one of the things that can affect Yeimo's psychological condition is that he is currently being held alone at the Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters. This situation caused the defendant to be unable to communicate with other people at all times.

When the family or other circles want to meet Victor Yeimo, the process is quite difficult. There are various conditions or must get permission from certain parties.

To that end, Komnas HAM Papua Representative also asked the police and the prosecutor's office to provide access so that Victor Yeimo's family or anyone who wants to meet can meet him because they care about the legal process and want to ascertain the condition of the defendant while he is being detained.

"The problem now is psychology. This could have an impact on Victor Yeimo's condition. For example, he can be stressed, potentially new diseases will emerge,” he said.

He said that when the Komnas HAM Papua Representative team met Yeimo recently, he complained that it was difficult to get access to get out of the detention room, even if it was just to sunbathe every day.

He is only allowed to sunbathe on certain days. Yet what Yeimo wanted was to be able to sunbathe every day.

“We ask that his request to be able to sunbathe every day can be fulfilled, and that his lawyer can always be given access when going to see him. We have said that since the beginning of visiting Victor Yeimo," he said.

The head of the High Prosecutor's Office or Kajati Papua, Nikolaus Kondomo, said his party would guarantee Victor Yaimo's rights.

"We ensure that the rights of the accused while they are deposited in the Brimob Detention Center will be well guaranteed. Not only the right to health, also eat, drink, and others. We make sure that all the rights of the accused are fulfilled," Nikolaus Kondomo said through an online press statement to reporters, Tuesday (10/08/2021).

According to him, now Yeimo has been detained by the prosecutor's office. However, he was temporarily placed in the detention center of the Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters, pending the trial process at the court, after the prosecutor's office transferred his case file to the court.

"We leave the defendant in the Brimob Detention Center, because we don't have a detention center

to hold it. We only have temporary cells. It is not possible for the accused to be detained there for one 24 hours,” he said. (*)
