Jayapura, 10/2 (Jubi)-Democracy in New Zealand support group questioned by West Papuan struggle.

The Australia West Papua Association (AWPA) worrying about democracy in New Zealand because the country is banned West Papuan leader, Benny Wenda to speak at the New Zealand Parliament.
Joe Collins, AWPA spokesman, said the ban is the second time the Indonesian government tried to block the issue of West Papua, in just one week.

"This is the second time. after a documentary film about the Papuan titled "Goodbye Indonesia," played on Al-Jazeera TV, the Government of Indonesia requested Aljazeera to put the official viewpoint of Indonesia in the documentary. Aljazeera response to pressure from the Government of Indonesia to add comments and responses by the Government of Indonesia at the end of the movie. "Said Joe Collins in the media releasenya sent to tabloidjubi.com, Saturday (9/2).
Prohibition of the New Zealand government, has made the most of the people of Australia and New Zealand itself dubious democracy in the country. AWPA suspect this has something to do with the ban on trade agreement between Indonesia and New Zealand signed last year.

"And now we see the NZ government also bowed to pressure from the Government of Indonesia with Benny Wenda is not possible to speak in Parliament. Looks like the trade has defeated human rights. "Said Joe Collins. (Jubi / Benny Mawel)

(Jubi/Benny Mawel)

The New Zealand Green Party is disappointed at the parliamentary speaker’s decision to stop a West-Papuan political activist from speaking at Parliament.
David Carter has turned down an application from the Green, Labour and Mana Parties to host Benny Wenda at a public function in Parliament on the grounds it is not appropriate.
Benny Wenda is the head of a freedom campaign that is fighting for the independence of West Papua, which is part of Indonesia.
The Green MP, Catherine Delahunty, says the Speaker’s decision goes against the spirit of Parliament.
“It’s not good enough to say, well you can do this in your caucus room. I wanted to hold a forum which included other political parties where they have shown an interest in this issue. This is an issue which basically is the dirty secret of the Pacific which no one wants to talk about. The facility called parliament belongs to all parliamentarians and without fear or favour we should be able to hold events in this facility.”
Ms Delahunty says Benny Wenda will instead speak at Victoria University, opposite Parliament, tomorrow.
The Speakers office says MPs can raise any concerns with the Parliamentary Service Commission.

West Papuan freedom fighter blocked from NZ Parliament
The Australia West Papua Association is greatly concerned that a democratic country like New Zealand is not allowing West Papuan leader Benny Wenda to speak at its Parliament House.
Joe Collins of AWPA said this is the second time in just over a week that Indonesian has tried to block the issue of West Papua being raised. After showing the documentary “Goodbye Indonesia,” about West Papua on Aljazeera TV, Aljazeera responded to pressure from the Indonesian Government by adding comments and responses by the Indonesian Government at the end of the film. And now we have the NZ Government also bowing to pressure from the Indonesian Government by not allowing Benny Wenda to speak at Parliament House. It looks like trade again trumps human rights.

The Papua Police detectives have arrested two suspects involved in hoarding more than 3.5 tons of fuel in Jayapura, Papua.

“They are currently detained at the Papua Police headquarters as they were caught hoarding subsidized fuel intended for the public,” said Papua Police chief spokesman Comr. I Gede Sumerta Jaya on Friday.

Suspects had installed a custom fuel tank that measured 1.5 meters long, 1 meter wide and 75 centimeters high into an Isuzu Panther.

The fuel, bought at a fuel station, was then transported to a stash at Pasar Batu Youtefa in Abepura.

Detectives from the Papua Police made the arrest at a fuel station in APO, Jayapura, on Feb. 1. The van had just finished filling 200 liters of premium gasoline when the suspects were caught. Half of the fuel came from a station in Tanah Hitam and the other half came from the APO station, both in Abepura.

“The two suspects were charged with violating Article 5 of Law No. 22/2001 on oil and gas, which carries a maximum sentence of six years and maximum fine of Rp 60 billion [US$6.5 million],” said Sumerta.

Beside hoarding 3.5 tons of premium gasoline, police also found 800 liters of diesel fuel in jerrycans and modified tanks.

Police are still investigating whether the fuel was to be sold to industries or smuggled overseas, and whether or not the illegal activity had been carried out for a long time.
