Jakarta (ANTARA) - The State Institute of Public Administration (IPDN) and the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) have dispatched a joint team to help accelerate the vaccination program in Papua province ahead of the 2020 National Sports Week (PON).

IPDN Rector Hadi Prabowo and the Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Yudo Margono, flagged off a COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force at Suma 2 Building, Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, here on Wednesday.

The joint task force comprises 81 personnel -- 55 officers from TNI AL, 20 officers from IPDN, and 6 volunteers.

They will collaborate with the Papuan team that comprises personnel from the regional military command, police, naval base, and government, Prabowo informed.

The IPDN rector said that the task force left for Papua on board the Indonesian Air Force’s Hercules aircraft.

"They will spend the night in Ambon before continuing the flight to Papua on the following day," he added.

Upon their arrival, the task force will immediately help the regional vaccination team to conduct the program at the Papua Governor's Office on Thursday, he said.

The health and support personnel sent by the institute are led by head of the IPDN Manggala Unit, Brigadier General Dodi Marsidy, as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Government Politics, Andi Pitono, Prabowo stated.

Regarding the accommodation, he said the task force will stay at the IPDN Papua regional campus in Sentani sub-district, Jayapura district, Papua. Moreover, a vaccination program will also be held at the campus on September 13, 2021, he informed.

The program will continue in other regions in Jayapura district on September 14, 2021 and in Keerom district on September 15-16, 2021, he said.

Meanwhile, the vaccination program at the institute's central campus in Jatinangor sub-district, Sumedang district, West Java will be conducted on September 17-18, 2021, the rector informed.

Under the program, the second vaccine dose will be administered to 5,264 people living around the campus, he added.
