1) Search on for two missing healthcare workers in Papua: army

Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Indonesian soldiers are continuing their search for two health workers who may have escaped to a hill in Kiwirok sub-district, Pegunungan Bintang district, Papua to avoid the brutality of separatist terrorists, a senior official said.

"The two healthcare workers' whereabouts are not yet traceable," commander of the 172/PWY District Military Command, Brig.Gen.Izak Pangemanan, told ANTARA in a telephonic interview from Jayapura on Tuesday.

Personnel from the 403/WP Infantry Battalion's Border Security Task Force are continuing their search mission for the two male paramedics and expect to find them alive, he said.

On Monday morning, several members of the Lamek Tablo-led group reportedly torched several public facilities, including a public health center, and homes in Kiwirok.

The separatist terrorists also got into a gun fight with Indonesian security personnel during which one army personnel sustained minor injuries on his right arm after a bullet ricocheted and struck him, Pangemanan said.

Soldiers found three other healthcare workers alive after the terrorists attacked Kiwirok, he informed.

Two of the health workers had sustained arrow injuries while the third one had been wounded after he was tortured, Pangemanan said, adding that 10 paramedics stationed in Kiwirok had fled to the 403/WP Infantry Battalion compound.

Meanwhile, Commanding Officer of the 1715 Yahukimo District Military Command, Lt.Col.Christian Irreuw, held members of the Lamek Tablo-led armed group responsible for the acts of terror in Kiwirok.

The separatist terrorists did not just torch several public facilities and houses in Kiwirok sub-district, but they also got involved in a gun fight with several Indonesian security personnel, he noted.

Before launching their acts of terror in Kiwirok, the separatist terrorists recently set some backhoes of state-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA) on fire.

Irreuw said they torched the backhoes, used for the Oksibil-Towe Hitam road construction project, to avenge the arrests of two members who had tried to smuggle five firearms into Papua from PNG on September 2, 2021.

Members of the Lamek Tablo-led separatist terrorist group may have headed to Batom sub-district in Pegunungan Bintang district, he added.

"Therefore, I have ordered all personnel, especially those responsible for securing the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea land border to stay alert," he said.

Kiwirok and Batom are among the sub-districts of Pegunungan Bintang district that are located near the Indonesia-PNG land border. (INE)

3) BNPB readies 2 million masks to support Papua PON
7 hours ago

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said it has prepared two million masks which will be distributed in four areas during the XX/2021 PON National Games in Papua to raise awareness on health protocols.

The agency will distribute the masks in Jayapura City, Jayapura District, Mimika District, and Merauke District to educate the public about the implementation of the health protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic, an official said.

"There are two million masks in stock in the four XX PON implementation areas. We will work together with 500 COVID-19 task force volunteers who will work in teams and shifts throughout the match," deputy for planning at the BNPB, Prasinta Dewi, informed at the 'Preparation of the Health Protocols for Papua PON XX' talk, accessed online here on Wednesday.

The BNPB will focus on the community around the PON venues and educate them on clean and healthy living behavior during the 'Adaptation to New Habit Period' in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, she said.

"Those who will watch (the PON match) are the target," she added.

Dewi said the procedure for spectators who will be allowed to attend the sporting venues has been formulated by the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI).

The committee has set requirements for visitors as well as the capacity of people at the venues during the sports event, she noted.

The BNPB COVID-19 task force plans to send five PCR test units during the event, she informed.

However, she said, BNPB is still coordinating with the Ministry of Health and the local Health Office because Merauke District does not have an adequate laboratory yet.

The PON National Games will be held in Jayapura City and the districts of Jayapura, Mimika, and Merauke from October 2-15, 2021.

At least 6,400 athletes and 3,500 officials from 34 provinces across Indonesia are expected to participate in Papua's PON National Games that will feature 37 events.
